How Do I Know What Is ImportantSo how can you figure out what your teacher wants you to learn and remember? Sometimes it might feel like you are hunting for that proverbial needle in the haystack but there are some clues.
Well, courses are designed around two basic principles: skills and content. The skills are pretty easy to sort out. Writing well, calculating math equations, keyboarding, test taking, study strategies, and reading for information are just a few of the skills you will need to learn for both school and after. Content is usually sorted into what educators think is valuable for you to know including the big ideas or concepts that are important for everyone to understand and use. An example of a concept is Democracy. Included under the concept of Democracy are all the details, specifics that when put together form the concept. For example, the three branches of government in the United States Democracy is one of those details, along with elections. Quick Tips |
