Staying Focused And InterestedOur brains are hardwired to make connections. We love making connections between things we know and things we just learned. Looking for connections also makes our brains feel good. Kids who are bored in school are usually not making connections. If you don't actively seek out those connections, you run the risk of sitting in class daydreaming. Daydreaming isn't necessarily bad. There are some very cool and creative things that happen during and as a result of daydreaming, but it can play havoc with your learning and your grades. I used to have a lot of trouble paying attention in chemistry class. I was really not interested in the subject, it was first period and I'm not a morning person, unless I am surfing, and my teacher had a monotone voice. I used to stare out the window and think about the surf or the awesome wave I caught the day before. But then, the end of the year came and I realized I didn't know anything!!!
